Iwan Asmady

I. Asmady is the Principal Consulting Advisor for emPowerment Consulting. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) from the Cortland State University of New York College in Cortland, New York. USA.   He has also qualified as an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators (UK). I. Asmady is a certified Global Remuneration Professional, GRP since November 2000. He has also participated in the Certification Institute on The HR Professional as a Strategic Partner conducted by WorldatWork in March 2006.

He has over 30 years of HR experience and was the Head of HR/Human capital for six companies including two American MNCs and four Government Linked Companies in various industries including oil & gas, car manufacturing, plantations & refinery, telecommunications, chemicals and health care.

In his capacity as the HR practitioner, I. Asmady has implemented various key initiatives in the areas of retention, organizational development, succession planning, talent management, expatriate and national benefits administration, recruitment strategies and industrial/employee relations.  He is well-versed with the Performance Management System using KPIs. He possesses hands-on knowledge and application for the Total Rewards approach in Attracting, Engaging and Retention of good employees.

Having served in both Unionized and Non-unionized organizations, I. Asmady is adept at managing employees in various work systems and is well-versed in his dealings with people from various cultural backgrounds. His hands-on knowledge in Job Evaluation, Salary & Benefits Survey and Analysis, Development of Salary Structure plus Retention Programs are essential tools in enhancing the Total Rewards Strategies for his previous employers.

Among his major accomplishments were:

  1. Was involved in the Group wide Job Evaluation exercise for jobs and subsequent salary grades and salary ranges realignment within the former Sime Darby Group  together with the HR Heads for all the Divisions
  2. Was a Facilitator for the Total Rewards program for participants in the Senior Management Development Program for the former Sime Darby Berhad
  3. Conducted Salary & Benefits Survey among the new oil & gas exploration companies in Malaysia
  4. Assumed Regional HR Head Position for Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand for a major conglomerate.
  5. Presented papers on HR Issues at the Annual World-wide Heads of HR meetings at Occidental Petroleum Corporation and also the Regional meetings in Eastman Chemicals.
  6. Jointly coordinated the Chemical Industries HR Practitioners Group in the East Coast
  7. Developed together with the management team of IJN the Differentiated Rewards  Program for Consultants
  8. Developed the Salary & Benefits structure program for three “green-field” companies – PERODUA Manufacturing, Occidental Petroleum and Eastman Chemicals.
  9. Developed revised Performance Management Review forms and introduced new processes to create the “Line of Sight”
  10. While with ExxonMobil, he was rotated to five different assignments as Employee Relations – Advisor Recruitment & Manpower, Employee Relations – Advisor IR, National Benefits Supervisor, Client Coordinator for eight Pooled Departments and Alcohol & Drugs Policies Coordinator.
  11. Completed various projects for clients in the areas of Engagement and Retention of the Workforce.
  12. Presented two Public Programs in 2006:

a) Integrating a Performance measurement Program that can deal with changes that occur within the Management & External factors from time to time

b) Case Study : Building A Total Rewards Strategy that supports an agile, innovative and competitive culture

As part of his professional development, I. Asmady participated in two short-term foreign assignments of six months’ each at the headquarters of two American MNCs (Occidental Petroleum Corporation in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Eastman Chemicals Company in Kingsport, Tennessee) in the areas of compensation & benefits, learning & development, expatriate administration, employee placement and counseling.
